The Walk for Team Walker will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Exchange Place, along the beautiful waterfront walkway in downtown Jersey City which overlooks the Manhattan Skyline - sponsored by Panepinto Properties. The location offers accessibility to thousands of individuals within walking distance, as well as those that use the PATH, trains and buses.

There will be numerous activities and highlights, making it a wonderful family experience, notes Jerry Walker, founder of Team WalkerNew Jersey Nets Mascot, Sly – all at no cost.

Jersey City has been a major part of my life and I feel it is important to help provide the youth with year-round recreational programs so that they may become more engaged in their community,” states Joseph Panepinto of Panepinto Properties. On behalf of the company, Stephanie Panepinto will be working with Team Walker to promote the walk. As part of Panepinto Properties sponsorship children from Saint Patrick’s school will be participating.

Team Walker was founded in 1996 by Jersey City natives Jerry and Jasper Walker who aspired to give Jersey City children the same after school programs they enjoyed while growing up. They knew these programs helped them mature academically, and also provided Jerry with an athletic outlet for his basketball abilities.

After graduating from Saint Anthony High School and helping the Friars win a national championship, Jerry enrolled at Seton Hall University and was instrumental in helping to lead the Pirates Men’s Basketball team to three NCAA Tournament. For his efforts, Walker was honored with the Metropolitan Player of the Year Award, the ESPN Post-Player of the Year Award.

Returning to his childhood neighborhood after enjoying a professional basketball career in Europe, Jerry saw the need for academic and recreational programs once again in Jersey City. The Team Walker vision was to create a program that would provide safe and constructive alternatives to negative influences that plague inner city youth. Through a structures academic and recreational environment, the children would learn how to focus on team work, responsibility, persistence and unity.

To their credit, the program had been hugely successful, growing from one basketball clinic, and a handful of children, to nearly 1,000 participants, and year-round academic and athletic programs in Jersey City.

Corporate sponsorships are available for The Walk for Team Walker. The walk is designed to raise money and public awareness benefiting the youth of Jersey City. For more information contact dreonieri@positiveimpactpartners.net or call Donald Reonieri at (201) 939-8601 x207.

The Berlin Wall Memorial, four authentic pieces of the historic wall to be the largest standing parts in the US, will be located on the waterfront in Jersey City’s vibrant downtown district and will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

William La Rosa, of the Department for Culture and Tourism in Hudson County, New Jersey, announced the gift pieces of the Berlin Wall from Oberhavel County, East Germany at the direction of Oberhavel County Executive Karl-Heinz Schroter. Hudson County and Oberhavel County have been sister’s counties since the year 2000. The two counties have been involved in student cultural and sports exchanges as well as business exchanges.

Hudson County Executive Thomas A. DeGuise first approached Joseph A. Panepinto, a real estate developer from Panepinto Properties, requesting this location of the memorial on the property outside of Harborside Plaza Ten on the waterfront walkway. In partnership with Mack-Cali, Panepinto Properties will be permitting the installation of the Berlin Wall Memorial for Peace. The pieces of the wall will be positioned on the Hudson River opposite the former World Trade Center site. The monument is aligned so that it faces Manhattan and the site of the planned Freedom Tower, where on September 11, 2001 the World Trade Center skyscrapers were destroyed. “Then, two memorials for peace and freedom will be directly opposite each other,” explained DeGuise. Information panels will also be displayed so students and visitors will understand the significance.

Jersey City has always been the gateway for opportunity for individuals from countries all over the world. This location for the Berlin Wall Memorial across the Hudson River opposite the Freedom Tower is an excellent symbol for international peace,” states Joseph Panepinto.

November 9, 2009 is the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and in effect the fall of communism in Germany and Eastern Europe explains William La Rosa. The monument is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2009 along with a ceremony to mark this historic occasion. The design concept was generously donated by Dean Marchetto along with engineering services by Malcolm Pirnie. Joseph Panepinto, Jr along with his sister Stephanie Panepinto are apart of the Berlin Wall Memorial Committee.
